“This is the
fraud department,” a voice from my cell phone said. I
quickly hung up. I had called my husband Al, not the fraud
department. Tried again. “Fraud Department.” Finally
I connected to an operator involved, to find my cell phone
had been cloned, and someone from the Dominican Republic had
been using my number to call various folks around the world – not
exactly my MO. So, I couldn’t call out, and incoming
callers received the friendly message-“This phone has
been disconnected!”
Technology,
to be honest, is a love-hate relationship with me. Yes, I’m aware we aren’t going back to the
good ole days, before cell phones, computers and iPods, but
it makes me fearsome when I hear “technology is doubling
every year.”
Since
our day is still 24 hours, just where is that extra time
to learn about and use all that extra
technology? We,
like many of our readers, have grandchildren, children, friendships,
commitments, and a less than thrilled attitude about spending
time “surfing” the net!
To
save you valuable time and energy, you’ll
now be able to find everything about Big Bear, on one easy
website
and on-line magazine, BigBearMagazine.com. We encourage you
to check it regularly and always before you plan your trips
to the mountains.
We’ve
teamed up with Big Bear’s most respected
webmasters, KhalsaWeb, to create our new online magazine,
BigBearMagazine.com. Our new on-line publication will not only
save a lot of trees, it will allow you, our 2nd Homeowners,
just one website to get everything you want to know about Big
Bear. We’ll update our calendar of events with any changes,
create an on-going blog, have some fun surveys and provide
you the most user friendly, up to date Valley information and
services
Let
us know some of your questions, and we’ll
find the answers. Email us and we can keep you on our list
to inform
you about Big Bear activities and changes.
On the positive side, all this technology that is still new
to our generation, makes communication far easier and uses
far less of the earth’s resources, which is always a
plus. We hope to hear from you!!
This
is the first issue in the last decade and a half that I’m
addressing you from our Indio home office, also as a 2nd
Homeowner.
As many of you know health issues have required us to move
off the hill permanently, but with all the new technology,
the entire magazine is now produced by phone, efax and email.
And, while our primary home is now in the Coachella Valley,
our hearts will always be in Big Bear.
